I have lived here in Mesa for over 30 years. I don't remember traffic being much of an issue on Whitley Collins until the last few years. When Ridgecrest School was reopened, I began to see a troubling traffic pattern. Each morning (when school was in session), I began to see traffic backed up on Whitley Collins waiting to turn left onto Crest Road (to go to Crenshaw Blvd). I have seen upwards of a dozen (yes 12 and more) waiting for the west bound Crest Road traffic turning onto Whitley Collins, almost all with one child being driven to the School on the other side of Whitley Collins. There seems to be little let up for the School traffic that would allow Mesa residents a reasonable opportunity to make that left turn onto Crest Road. This is a particularly troubling issue for three reasons. One is that drivers preclude anyone from turning left onto Crest; two is that they speed up Whitley Collins like it is a racetrack to get to Scotwood and then to Mistridge to drop their child/children off at the School; and three is that there is a far better solution, especially for those coming from the west as they can easily turn left (at the signal light) on Highridge and drop their child/children off along the long area of Highridge at the edge of the School. Children could then walk up a bit of Whitley Collins or up the Stairs there on Highridge to get to School. It may not be quite as convenient for the kids; but, it is probably safer for them and it's really not all that far for them to have to walk the final distance to get to school.
I would be very glad to work with any and all that have an interest in this difficult situation - especially for Mesa residents. As a former member and past Chairman of the RPV Traffic Safety Commission (now a Committee) I have a little insight into how to work this problem (and I do believe it IS a problem - at least for some). While I am now fully retired and do not have to 'commute' to work or any place else, it is troubling for this situation to not only have developed; but, to see it persist for this length of time..... Hello
I hope this website will help us get to know each other better. How can we make Mesa PV a place where neighbors know each other?
